Upper Canada Child Carehttp://por.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/school-news/16Upper Canada Child Care<p style="text-align:center;"><strong>Upper Canada Child Care and SCDSB need to hear from you!</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Before and after school (B&A) programs offer care programs for children in Kindergarten to grade 6 before and/or after the regular school day and some schools offer full days of care on PA days and holidays.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">B&A will only operate in schools if enough families require care.  </p><p style="text-align:justify;">To help us determine the needs of each school, a survey is being sent home with youngest/only students in kindergarten to grade 5 or you can also complete the survey online by visiting:</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><a href="http://fluidsurveys.com/s/BeforeandAfterCare2016/"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">http://fluidsurveys.com/s/BeforeandAfterCare2016/</span></a></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Even if your child already attends B&A, it is still important to complete the survey. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Please be sure to fill out the survey online or return a paper copy to your school office by <strong>Friday, February 12, 2016.</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Listings will be available in early spring 2016 confirming which schools will operate B&A in September 2016.</p>
CUPE and ETFO reach tentative agreements; suspend work-to-rule actionshttp://por.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/board-news/41CUPE and ETFO reach tentative agreements; suspend work-to-rule actions<h2>ETFO</h2><p>The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) began provincial job action in the form of a work-to-rule campaign in May 2015.   <br></p><p><strong>On November 2, ETFO reached a tentative agreement at the central bargaining table with the Government of Ontario and the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA). </strong> The tentative deal must be endorsed by ETFO's local leaders before it is presented to all ETFO members for ratification. ETFO has agreed to suspend central job action while ratification takes place. Terms of the tentative agreement have not yet been made public.</p><h2>CUPE</h2><p>The collective bargaining agreement between the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) expired on August 31, 2014. In the SCDSB, CUPE represents our custodial and maintenance staff. Since September 10, 2015, CUPE members have been engaged in provincial job action in the form of a work-to-rule campaign.   <br></p><p><strong>On November 2, CUPE reached a tentative agreement at the central bargaining table with the Government of Ontario and the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA). </strong> The tentative deal must be endorsed by CUPE's local leaders before it is presented to all CUPE members for ratification. CUPE has agreed to suspend central job action while ratification takes place. ‘Bus Tag’ program helps students get to and from school safelyhttp://por.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/board-news/18‘Bus Tag’ program helps students get to and from school safely<p>​</p><p>The Simcoe County Student Transportation Consortium (SCSTC) launched the Bus Tag<strong> </strong>program this September.<strong> </strong>The Bus Tag program supports safety for JK/SK and other school-identified students by<strong> </strong>providing a process to match students to their assigned afternoon school bus and to also<strong> </strong>identify they must be met by a parent or guardian at their afternoon bus stop.</p><p>The program provides:</p><ul style="list-style-type:disc;"><li>a colour coded bus tag with the assigned p.m. route number to be attached to the student's backpack</li><li>a colour-coded route card with route number in the windows of the school bus that the Bus Tag is matched to</li></ul><p>The SCSTC and Bus Operators have policies and procedures that are used on all school vehicles to ensure students in JK/SK and other school identified students are met at their afternoon bus stop.  It's the parent/guardian's responsibility to meet Junior Kindergarten, Senior Kindergarten and other identified students at the bus stop .The Bus Tag program has been established to assist both the schools and school bus drivers to load these students on the correct afternoon bus and identify they are to be met at their bus stop by a parent/guardian.
