Chris is a well-known speaker on the topic of social media and he will speak about the potential of online communication among youth and how to use it for positive and meaningful connections. Chris will be speaking to Portage View and Cundles Heights students in grades 4-8 at PVPS at 1:35 pm.  At 6:30 that evening, Chris will present to parents.  His talk will help parents develop the skills to communicate with their children and minimize the risk of bullying, cyberbullying and loss of reputation. Please plan to join us for an engaging presentation and a question/answer period.  PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE!</p>

Upper Canada Child Carehttp://por.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/school-news/16Upper Canada Child Care<p style="text-align:center;"><strong>Upper Canada Child Care and SCDSB need to hear from you!</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Before and after school (B&A) programs offer care programs for children in Kindergarten to grade 6 before and/or after the regular school day and some schools offer full days of care on PA days and holidays.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">B&A will only operate in schools if enough families require care.  </p><p style="text-align:justify;">To help us determine the needs of each school, a survey is being sent home with youngest/only students in kindergarten to grade 5 or you can also complete the survey online by visiting:</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><a href="http://fluidsurveys.com/s/BeforeandAfterCare2016/"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">http://fluidsurveys.com/s/BeforeandAfterCare2016/</span></a></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Even if your child already attends B&A, it is still important to complete the survey. </p><p style="text-align:justify;">Please be sure to fill out the survey online or return a paper copy to your school office by <strong>Friday, February 12, 2016.</strong></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Listings will be available in early spring 2016 confirming which schools will operate B&A in September 2016.</p>
CUPE and ETFO reach tentative agreements; suspend work-to-rule actionshttp://por.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/board-news/41CUPE and ETFO reach tentative agreements; suspend work-to-rule actions<h2>ETFO</h2><p>The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) began provincial job action in the form of a work-to-rule campaign in May 2015.   <br></p><p><strong>On November 2, ETFO reached a tentative agreement at the central bargaining table with the Government of Ontario and the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA). </strong> The tentative deal must be endorsed by ETFO's local leaders before it is presented to all ETFO members for ratification. ETFO has agreed to suspend central job action while ratification takes place. Terms of the tentative agreement have not yet been made public.</p><h2>CUPE</h2><p>The collective bargaining agreement between the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) expired on August 31, 2014. In the SCDSB, CUPE represents our custodial and maintenance staff. Since September 10, 2015, CUPE members have been engaged in provincial job action in the form of a work-to-rule campaign.   <br></p><p><strong>On November 2, CUPE reached a tentative agreement at the central bargaining table with the Government of Ontario and the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA). </strong> The tentative deal must be endorsed by CUPE's local leaders before it is presented to all CUPE members for ratification.
