Labour Situation Update - Schools open Tuesday, September 8http://por.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/board-news/36Labour Situation Update - Schools open Tuesday, September 8<span><p>On Thursday, August 20, the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario announced that elementary school teachers will implement Phase 2 of their work-to-rule job action in the 2015-16 school year. <span><span><span></span></span></span><strong></strong></p><p><strong>All SCDSB schools will be open for student learning, and all child care centres and Before and After School programs will operate as regularly scheduled.</strong></p><p> <span><span><span><span><span><span>Work-to-rule means partial withdrawal of service.</span></span></span></span></span></span> To learn more about the labour situation, visit the <a target="_blank" href="http://scdsb.on.ca/Board/Pages/Labour-Situation.aspx">Labour Situation page</a> on the SCDSB's website.</p></span>
First Rider Program taking place in August/September to help first time JK/SK/Primary bus ridershttp://por.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/board-news/35First Rider Program taking place in August/September to help first time JK/SK/Primary bus riders<p>​The Simcoe County Student Transportation Consortium (SCSTC) offers a free <a target="_blank" href="http://main.simcoecountyschoolbus.ca/sites/default/files/First%20Rider%20Program%20Appendix%20A%20Parent%20Letter-%202015.pdf"><em>First Rider Program</em></a> for first-time school bus riders, which includes a ride on a school bus. This safety program is provided by the SCSTC, in partnership with school bus operators, to educate students and their families of the rules and responsibilities on and around the school bus. </p><p>Sessions will take place in late August and early September across Simcoe County. Parents/guardians and their children attending any school in Simcoe County may attend any of the sessions. Credit Card payments are accepted.</p><p><strong>Newsletters</strong><br>All of our monthly school newsletters will be posted on the <a href="/parents/newsletters"><span lang="EN-CA" style="text-decoration:underline;">Newsletters</span></a> page under Parents. They will also be emailed out to you when you sign up for a subscription to our website.</p><p>Take a look around our new website and try out all the new features. ‘Bus Tag’ program helps students get to and from school safelyhttp://por.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/board-news/18‘Bus Tag’ program helps students get to and from school safely<p>​</p><p>The Simcoe County Student Transportation Consortium (SCSTC) launched the Bus Tag<strong> </strong>program this September.<strong> </strong>The Bus Tag program supports safety for JK/SK and other school-identified students by<strong> </strong>providing a process to match students to their assigned afternoon school bus and to also<strong> </strong>identify they must be met by a parent or guardian at their afternoon bus stop.</p><p>The program provides:</p><ul style="list-style-type:disc;"><li>a colour coded bus tag with the assigned p.m. route number to be attached to the student's backpack</li><li>a colour-coded route card with route number in the windows of the school bus that the Bus Tag is matched to</li></ul><p>The SCSTC and Bus Operators have policies and procedures that are used on all school vehicles to ensure students in JK/SK and other school identified students are met at their afternoon bus stop.  It's the parent/guardian's responsibility to meet Junior Kindergarten, Senior Kindergarten and other identified students at the bus stop .The Bus Tag program has been established to assist both the schools and school bus drivers to load these students on the correct afternoon bus and identify they are to be met at their bus stop by a parent/guardian.
